Step gently into the new year with a peaceful Winter Walk, a time to pause, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself and the quiet beauty of nature.
In this tender winter season, we’ll walk together through stillness and light, noticing the quiet resilience and hope that the natural world so generously offers. Even in its resting phase, nature reminds us that life continues to unfold with grace and purpose.
We will gather in Lincoln’s secret walled garden, tucked to the right of The Lawn complex in the city’s historic Cathedral Quarter. This hidden sanctuary, the John Dawber Gardens, is a place of calm and reflection, a living reminder of how care and community can restore what once seemed lost.
Created in 1985 to celebrate Lincoln’s international twinning links and honour the legacy of Lincolnshire botanist Sir Joseph Banks, the gardens once showcased plants discovered during his 18th-century voyage to Australia and the South Pacific with Captain James Cook.
At the entrance, the Moon Gates bear an inscription that reads: “A sense of the past explains the present and foretells the future.” What a beautiful message to carry with us as we step into 2026.
Lovingly restored by the Dawber Gardens Community Trust, this space has been brought back to life through the dedication of local volunteers, reshaping shrubs, rebuilding the pond, creating new paths, planting anew, and restoring benches for quiet rest and reflection.
Guided by Atma, this mindful walk invites you to sit, walk, listen, observe, and share in the beauty and wisdom of this remarkable garden in the heart of our city.
Please wear warm, comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the weather. A cup of herbal tea will be shared to warm our hands and hearts.
